This month, our featured photographer is Vice President of the Ajax Photography Club, Richard Cousineau C.E.T.

Bio:

I grew up in Northern Ontario and still love the outdoors. During the last 30yrs as our kids grew up we traveled to most of the popular Ontario Provincial Parks in the summer for many fun camping weeks capturing many photographic memories along the way.

I have always been interested in photography as far back as I can remember playing with cameras and anything mechanical or electrical which always intrigued me. When I was in grade 9, I set up my new High School dark room as well as one at home. In the film days I used to buy bulk 35mm and load my own film cans to over capacity.

When I first started to work after college I was fortunate to get to travel to many remote and isolated locations of Canada to repair Microwave communications antennas as well as climbing some microwave towers up to 500 ft and experienced a bird’s eye view of landscapes seldom seen except from that those vantage points.

  • How would you describe your photography style?
I enjoy capturing photos of landscape, macro and wildlife photography as well as being an avid hiker and love to capture the story along the way.
  • Which photographer is your biggest inspiration?
I do not follow or been inspired by any photographer, I subscribed to many publications in the last 35-40 years and basically made a note of something of interest that is well photographed and reflected on if I would ever like to experience this for myself and capture it in my own way.
  • How long have you been interested in photography?
I have always been interested in photography as far back as I can remember playing with cameras and anything mechanical or electrical which always intrigued me.
  • What was your first camera?
Not sure, Ricoh XR series, Minolta X-700, and my first auto focus: Maxxum 7000 when I found out that I needed prescription glasses to capture in focus photos for some reason.
  • What  is  your  dream  photo  trip?
During the last 3 years my wife and I have experienced spectacular views from many mountain tops like Mt Washington, Kilimanjaro and the bottom of the Grand Canyon capturing these views with my camera gear in my backpack. Grand Canyon and Sedona hiking are already booked for Oct 2016.

  1. Hi Richard, I’ve taken time to view your works on the flickr web site and was captivated by your images. I have similar photographic pursuits and hope to refine my techniques to that of yours.

    1. Hi Ken. Thank you for the kind words about Richards work. You can always send him a message on our Meetup site. It’s a much better way of getting your comment directly to him.
