Looking for some photographic inspiration? Well look no further then the current members of the Ajax Photography Club. Each month a different APC member will be featured and we will provide a glimpse into their photographic life.
This month, the featured photographer is past APC President, Ron Pereux.
Bio:
I am from a small pulp and paper community north of Winnipeg called Pine Falls. Lived near a french community in the area called St.George, on a small hobby farm. My father is a retired accountant and small craft commercial pilot. Spent much of my younger life in bush planes, and training horses. Attended University of Winnipeg, and Red River Community college. Worked as an Animal Health Technologist, then continued education as Medical Radiation Technologist. After graduation moved to Toronto, worked in Diagnostic Imaging at Women’s College Hospital, now at Rouge Valley Health System.
For 26 years I have been taking photos inside the body, now enjoy photography outside the body. I joined the Ajax Photography Club 6 years ago when it started, was asked to take on the role of Vice- President, then moved into the President’s Chair for 3 years. I am beyond proud how the club has evolved, my photography has evolved with it. I continue assisting in programs and education roles with the club. It was not achieved alone, the amazing executive team and members have made the APC today.
- How would you describe your photography style?
Style evolves with time and experience. I like images that have impact and captures emotion. Looking at images from history that make them famous…why? I like all areas of photography especially music concert photography and black & white photography. - Which photographer is your biggest inspiration?
For portraiture I like Yousuf Karsh… a Canadian Armenian photographer that captured some of the most famous people in history. To see impact and emotion look at his image of Winston Churchill. Read about how he captured it. For photography of musicians, I really enjoy the stoic images of Herman Leonard. The smoky jazz clubs of famous icon musicians like Billie Holiday. For inspiration, I look to David du Chemin and Joe McNally. - How long have you been interested in photography?
Ever since I was a kid in grade 9. We had a small photography group with our science teacher. We experienced the chemical marvels of the classic photo darkroom. - What was your first camera?
It was an older Brownie Camera that took 135mm rolled film. - What is your dream photo trip?
So many on my Bucket List….it would be someplace that has diverse topographical geography. New Zealand or Tanzania.You can view more of Ron’s work on our Meetup site.
