APC September Meeting – “Vision Beyond Seeing” with Don Komarechka

The start of the 2015/2016 APC season is just around the corner, and we are excited to have Don Komarechka returning to the APC. As many of our current members will remember, Don wowed us with his Marco presentation last February and we are sure to be wowed by his new presentation “Vision Beyond Seeing”.

Date: Tuesday September 22, 2015
Ajax Community Centre – HMS Room
Doors open at 6:30 PM

“Vision Beyond Seeing” is a presentation that aims to close the gap between how we see the world and how a camera captures an image. The differences are vast, and we don’t perceive the world in terms of focal length, shutter speed, dynamic range or many other “camera terms” when we enjoy beautiful scenery. The camera sees things much different than us, so how do we capture an image that represents the scene as we see it?

There are techniques to make an image look very similar to the way we remember it, and there are techniques to present images that we could never imagine seeing with our own eyes. Each has their value, but creativity reigns supreme.

This presentation will try to answer a few difficult questions – what is creativity and how do I find it, and how do I think outside the box? How do I make something new and interesting, and how do I use the camera as extension of my own vision? How and why would I want to previsualize a scene, and what happens when I don’t get the results I expect? There will be many tangents. The material will be entertaining. You’ll leave with countless new ideas and the inspiration to execute them.

Welcome to all our New members

Welcome back and Welcome to all our New members.

The Ajax Photography Club (APC) is in its fifth season.  We are like new parents, very proud of the club.

The APC is different than most photo clubs in the area and we offer a spectrum of learning offerings with your paid membership;
  • Mass Interaction  – Online with members on our MeetUp site
  • Contests  – Club digital, printed, Greater Toronto Council of Camera Clubs (GTCCC)
  • Large group – Member meetings
  • Medium group – Field Trips and Outings
  • Small group – Class room / Workshops / Social nights
  • Individual – Mentoring Program
  • Newsletters
At an all-time high 100 members the club closed our last season.  There is a mix of male/female/novice/experienced/canon/nikon/other brands and we all get along fine.  The learning activities provide many opportunities to interact with other friendly members who are always happy to provide feedback or answer questions you may have.
The member meetings are the last Tuesday of each month.  If you are not a member yet, you can try the meeting as a guest for only $10.  The topic of the member meeting changes each month.   There are outings and social gatherings about twice per month.  There are also Online activities to participate in.  All of the activities are advertised on our meetup site. http://www.meetup.com/Ajax-Photography-Club/  It is free to our paid-up members.   Sometimes adhoc short notice outings pop-up when a member suggests an event, then several members will meet and hike/chat….
Membership is $70 per year from September.   For any questions Contact: APCinquiries@gmail.com.
