Bio:
I live in Whitby and retired in 2008 from 33 years of teaching Science in the Durham region. My interest in photography goes back to my teen years!! I pursued my photography skills early in my teaching career by purchasing my own Pentax MX camera. As a Chemistry teacher, I taught students the “Chemistry of Developing B/W Film” in the school “Dark Room”. I also enjoyed taking candid shots of students at school events as well as School Clubs/Teams for the School Yearbook.
I have been a member of the Oshawa Camera Club since 2010 and have been serving for the past year and a half on the OCC Executive as the Program & Education Director. I am an avid gardener and have a passion for photographing Landscapes, Macro, Architecture & Wildlife. I enjoy being active at the Gym, gardening and love to travel, hike and perfect my photographic skills. On the road in our “Alto” Travel-Trailer, my wife and I have toured the Rockies, Maritimes and US South-West. In addition we’ve been to India, UK, Namibia & Europe. Next summer, we are both looking forward to camping in our favorite Provincial Parks in Ontario and exploring Newfoundland.
- How would you describe your photographic style?
This is a difficult question. I try to capture scenes that are unique and often will return to the same location to photograph under different conditions. Besides capturing Landscapes, I enjoy taking images out of my “Comfort zone”. In the end, I am inspired when my friends or other photographers enjoy my work. - Which photographer is your biggest inspiration?
When I started using a DSLR a few years ago, I was inspired by work of other club members. My Participation in workshops led by Michael Bertelson, André Gallant, Don Komarechka, Andrew Collett, Rob Stimpson & Christoph Fischer has allowed me to continue to develop my own unique style. - How long have you been interested in photography?
I developed an interest in Photography as a teen, however, given more time in retirement I’ve become a more passionate photographer in the past 5 years. - What was your first camera?
My first camera was a “Polaroid Swinger” I received on my 16 th Birthday. My father later gave me his Pentax Spotmatic to take pics at ALL family events. - What is your dream photo trip?
I really enjoyed my recent photo tour to Namibia and love to photograph Waterfalls – anywhere!! I still have many destinations on my “Bucket list”: Iceland, Ireland & Hawaii.
