Looking for some photographic inspiration? Well look no further then the current members of the Ajax Photography Club. Each month a different APC member will be featured and we will provide a glimpse into their photographic life.

This month, the featured photographer is APC member, Todd Murrison.

Bio:
During the day, I’m a freelance commercial illustrator specializing in TV storyboards working with some really great creative Ad Agency teams across North America! Just over 4 years ago, I purchased my first DSLR, a Canon T3i. And like yourself, I guess you could say, “I got the shutter bug!” After falling victim to a bad case of G.A.S (Gear Acquisition Syndrome), I quickly learned that the gear does not make the picture, and have now focused on education, listening and most importantly; observing!

The fun thing is just trying new directions, honing a style, and hopefully create unique imagery from a frozen moment in time

  • How would you describe your photographic style?
My comfort zone is definitely landscape. However I feel it’s best to try different areas of photography, and integrate or crossover visual aspects from one area to another.
  • Which photographer is your biggest inspiration?
A LOT of my favourite photographers are no longer with us (Henri Cartier-Brisson, Ansel Adams. Yousef Karsch, Phillipe Halsman & Elliott Erwitt), Some of today’s visionaries I admire are Joe McNally, Evgeni Dinev and Max Rive.
  • How long have you been interested in photography?
Back in the 80’s, I used to be an art director, and would hire photographers: It all seemed like magic to me at the time! And I still get a kick out of these cool, digital “magic boxes” today!
  • What was your first camera?
I remember having a Kodak Pocket Instamatic 10 as a young teenager in the early 1970’s.
  • What is your dream photo trip?
I’d say New Zealand. There’s a reason Trey Ratcliffe lives there 🙂
